Pneumococcal disease is caused by bacteria that can spread from person to person through close contact. It can lead to serious infections of the lungs (pneumonia), blood (bacteremia), and meningitis.
Prevnar 13 is a vaccine for use in adults 50 and over. It is used to prevent pneumonia. This vaccine is not covered by OHIP.
